Of course we all know there have been some severely dry summers lately. It looks like the drought from 2011 is heading into a new phase. Many of the trees in the Beavers Bend and Broken Bow area have died from the extreme heat and lack of water. Those trees have now been dead or dying for close to a year. As they die and become brittle, many can no longer fight gravity or the wind and fall over. By no means have a majority of the trees died, but it doesn't take many to wreak havoc on modern civilization. Within the last two weeks, trees have taken out power lines on two different occasions. Choctaw Electric did a great job restoring the electricity within a few hours of either incident. However, with winter just a few months away, there may be a little more to worry about. Dead trees have no chance against the weight of accumulating ice or snow.
